What You Need To Know About Ginger - 10 Interesting Facts - Plus why its great for weight loss!

Ginger

I've always liked ginger, especially ginger biscuits. Recently I stated baking more with ginger and while in my local supermarket paying for my shopping the lady at the checkout mentioned that the ginger reminded her of her Christmas and her mum. She said that her mum was forever munching on ginger! I like the flavour but I thought not just to eat straight out of the bag, so once home I ripped open the bag and dived in, and my oh my what a mistake, I kid you not it was scrumptious, I am now not only addicted to grapes but ginger also!

YES I AM NOW A GINGER ADDICT OF THE EDIBLE KIND

  1. Ginger is actually a rhizome, not a root. A rhizome is an underground stem.
  2. The ginger plant is an herb.
  3. Ginger is a part of the Zingiberaceae family, which also include turmeric and cardamom.
  4. Ginger is home to southeastern Asia.
  5. You can grow ginger from rhizomes found at supermarkets.
  6. Mature ginger rhizomes, ones most commonly sold in supermarkets are generally harvested after 10-12 months.
  7. Ginger is commonly grown in warmer regions and the tropics.
  8. Ginger can be planted all year round. However the best time to plant them is at the end of winter to early spring.
  9. A ginger plant can grow up to a staggering 4 ft tall.
  10. Ginger has MANY HEALTH BENEFITS, some which include anti-inflammatory properties, helps regulate your blood sugar levels, and gastrointestinal relief.

I know your all wondering how is ginger good for weight loss? Well this is how I see it & it works for me, (THIS IS NOT FACT) I find by chewing on a piece of ginger, not the raw kind, the ginger you bake with,  whenever I think I feel hungry I pop a piece in my mouth. The taste of the ginger is quite intense that I don't want to eat anything else as the ginger  has left such a strong but pleasant flavour in my mouth. Hey presto - no unnecessary eating of chunk food etc and you get the health benefits from the ginger. Try it and see if it stops you eating when your bored.

INGREDIENTS  18 dried dates (approx) 2-3 tbsp boiling water 1 cup of porridge oats WHAT YOU WILL NEED 1 sheet of parchment paper Rolling pin Food processor METHOD Slice dates in half, place in a small bowl and add the boiling water, leave for approx 15-20 minutes to soak Preheat oven 170 fan/190c Put porridge oats in a food processor, then add the dates along with the water they were soaking in, and blend until you get a stick consistency, if mixture is too dry just add a little water. Turn out the mixture onto one half of the parchment paper, carefully gather all the mixture up and then fold over the half of the paper to cover the mixture, this will stop the mixture sticking to the rolling pin in the next stage. With the rolling pin, roll out your mixture to about 5mm thick and cut into slices, place carefully onto a lined baking tray, and repeat. Place in oven on middle shelf and bake for approx 15/20 minutes After removing from the oven leave to cool
